Near the North Pole a seal rests on the snow. If a polar bear saw the seal it would eat it in a minute.
But the polar bear can't see her. The fur of the seal is white as snow. The seal is protected by its own color.
Many animals need protection to prevent others from eating them. Some animals are protected by their shape or color, like the seal. Others, for his shell. Others are good fighters. Other good runners.
