| Life in the desert During the day, the desert seems like a lifeless place: animals hide where they can protect themselves from the heat.
But when the sun goes down, the desert cools quickly. The little gerbils come out of their hiding place in search of seeds. Snakes hunt gerbils and lizards.
Sometimes it rains in the desert. So, this one blooms, since there are many seeds in almost all deserts. But most of the plants that emerge will quickly wilt and die in the scorching sun..
