Musical instrument families

Posted in 7 - How things work, Musical instruments

There are many types of musical instruments. They are grouped into four families. The instruments of each family are alike in many ways.

One of the groups is that of percussion instruments. To strike means to strike. All instruments that are struck with something belong to this family.

Brass instruments form another family. All these instruments are made of brass and have a mouthpiece for blowing.

Wind instruments form another family. These instruments were formerly made of wood. But today many are made of metal or plastic.

Another important group is that of string instruments. These instruments are made of wood or metal and have special strings.
